Pine Barrens, New Jersey Hotels

In a state as full of urban and suburban sprawl and dense population as New Jersey, many would be surprised to find out that nearly a quarter of the state's land is contained in one massive tract of pine-lined open space. Home to the notorious Jersey Devil, the Pine Barrens span 1.1 million acres of southern New Jersey, nearly connecting its coast with its western border. There are a number of towns along the outskirts of the Pine Barrens where you can find hotels.
  1. Hammonton Hotels

    • Hammonton is located south of the Pine Barrens -- Wharton State Forest -- and is convenient to the historic Batsto Village, one of the historical attractions of the Pinelands region. The town is located right off the Atlantic City Expressway, making it easy to travel to Atlantic City and other New Jersey shore points and to Philadelphia.

The Hammonton Inn calls itself the "most centrally located hotel in South Jersey on Route 30," because it is within about 30 minutes of both the shore and Philadelphia. TheiInn is also just outside the border of the Pine Barrens. Other hotels in Hammonton include the Red Carpet Inn and Suites, and Winslow Inn and Suites.

    Pemberton Hotels

    • Pemberton is near the northwestern border of the Pine Barrens and is near Brendan T. Byrne State Forest. In addition to being located in the Pine Barrens region, Pemberton is adjacent to Fort Dix and McGuire Air Force Base.

The Executive Inn is located a short drive from downtown Pemberton in Pemberton Heights. It offers jacuzzi rooms and free wireless Internet. In addition, the Isaac Hilliard House is an intimate bed and breakfast in a Victorian-era home in a garden setting that offers rooms with private baths.

    Atlantic City-Area Lodging

    • Given its location at the end of the Atlantic City Expressway and White Horse Pike -- or Route 30 -- Atlantic City is a convenient drive to the Pine Barrens region. It is also a large tourist destination in itself with innumerable hotel properties ranging from the towering casino resorts that line the Boardwalk and marina to the small, inexpensive motels and budget hotels that are up and down Pacific Avenue. Inland towns like Absecon, which is right on Route 30, offer plenty of hotels of their own and will put you closer to the Pine Barrens.

    Toms River

    • Toms River is a large town on the eastern edge of the Pine Barrens. It is just inland from major shore destinations like Seaside Heights. Hotels including the Comfort Inn, Howard Johnson and the Holiday Inn are located along Route 37, which connects Toms River to Seaside. The Victorian on Main is a bed and breakfast located right on Main Street in Toms River, within walking distance to restaurants, shops and parks.
