The Difference in MRP and SRP

The U.S. Travel Association estimates 90 million Americans planned and booked leisure trips online in 2008. This is important to property managers setting up websites with booking forms: the booking process needs to be straightforward so users know exactly what they are booking. One important factor to include on your booking page is whether users are booking a single-room (SRP) or multiroom property (MRP).
  1. Multiroom Properties

    • Hotels and motels are standard multiroom properties -- accommodations with multiple rooms that users can select. In hotels, these are usually identified by the type of bed in the room and recommended occupancy, usually twin, double, queen and king-sized beds, either one or two per room. Users can select their room preferences, number of rooms required for large groups, and the dates of their stays and the online booking system should automatically make the reservation, depending on availability.

    Single-Room Properties

    • Vacation homes, apartments and villas are all examples of single-room properties. The property manager for a single-room property location needs to design the online booking form so users book their dates of stay and the entire property, be it a cottage or apartment, is reserved.

    Advantages and Disadvantages

    • The pros and cons of single-room and multiroom properties are subjective and depend on the needs of individual travelers. Multiroom properties like hotels often provide basic amenities like restaurants and daily housekeeping onsite. They are comfortable and suitable for short stays. For longer stays, many travelers prefer single-room properties, such as a furnished apartment with its own kitchen or laundry facilities, which offer a more comfortable, home-like atmosphere for vacations.

    Booking Software

    • Invest in one of the many software programs available to help you build your online booking form. One of the first options these programs offer you when you're designing your site's user interface is to identify your property as single-room or multiple-room. It is, after all, one of the first things your potential guests need to know when deciding where they want to spend their vacations.
