Hotels in Puxico, Missouri

Puxico, Missouri, is a small town of about 1,150 people, according the 2000 United States census. Located on the eastern edge of the Ozark Mountains, Puxico is a 15-minute drive to Lake Wappapello and is close to Mingo National Wildlife Refuge and Crowley's Ridge Conservation Area. Mingo National Wildlife Refuge, with its two major marshes, is a bird-watchers paradise, home to nesting bald eagles. Although no hotels are located in Puxico, accommodations can be found nearby in Wappapello, Poplar Bluff and Dexter.

Nearby restaurants include Ted's BBQ, Fisherman's Net and Don's Restaurant and Lounge. Fishing licenses are available for purchase at nearby Wappapello Sports II.

The lodge borders on the University Forest Conservation Area and is minutes to Lake Wappapello. The 16-room log-cabin-style lodge offers vaulted ceilings and four rooms with whirlpool tubs. The sports lounge is decorated with kitschy antiques from around the world and the hotel lobby is adorned with a large moose head. Dining options, including Colton's Steak House, Myrtle's Place and the Hayden Drive-In, are within a 10-minute drive.

    Oak Tree Inn

    • The Oak Tree Inn (oaktreeinn.com) in Dexter, a half-hour drive southeast of Puxico, offers rooms designed for sleeping. Light-control draperies, sound therapy digital clocks, well-insulated walls, thick-paned windows and quiet heating and cooling systems keep rooms dark and quiet. A 1950s-style, 24-hour diner adjacent to the property offers guests free breakfast. Rooms feature all of the usual hotel amenities and a small fitness room is on-site. The Stars and Stripes Museum, dedicated to preserving the history of military newspapers, is a 15-minute drive north.
