The Riverside Inn is the only motel in Hawley. Located on Valley Road east of Old Highway 2, it is across the street from Riverbend Park and less than a mile from Hawley Golf Club. Though not a large motel, Riverside Inn has affordable room rates and has a restaurant inside, the Felton Bar & Grill.
For those not wishing to stay at the Riverside Inn, various accommodations can be found in Fargo such as the Radisson Hotel, Hilton Garden Inn or Mainstay Suites. More inexpensive motels include the Travelodge and Suites, Days Inn & Suites and Econo Lodge.
Hawley is best known for its history and small town atmosphere. Settled by an English colony in 1871, it was named after Thomas Hawley Canfield, an officer in the Northern Pacific Railway, which laid out the town. The city was visited by General Custer in 1876. Much of Hawley's culture has Scandinavian influences, many of which are explored at the Historical & Cultural Society of Clay County. Nearby in the city of Moorhead, one can also visit the Hjemkost, a large Viking Ship model made by a city inhabitant to reflect his dreams of sailing to Norway.
Hawley is currently promoting itself through its "Hawley Would" campaign, a bid to attract visitors and residents by highlighting the city's small town atmosphere, proximity to Fargo and internal attractions. Hawley Golf Course & Country Club is the city's main attraction, a beautiful 18-hole course in the middle of the city. Besides being close to many small lakes suitable for fishing or water sports, Hawley itself has many small restaurants, various community events and a small airport in which you can fly your own plane.
