The town of Marfa, Texas, is a town of 2,100 residents located in the Chihuahua Desert. Marfa is located in Presidio County and sits between three different mountain ranges. It is a tourist destination for several attractions, including the mysterious, nighttime-visible Marfa Lights. First discovered in 1883, some people believe the lights to be a sign of paranormal activity, but it's more likely they're reflections of car headlights. To explore this phenomenon for yourself, there are several places to stay in and around Marfa.
  1. Hotel Paisano

    • Located in downtown Marfa, the Hotel Paisano is the town's most famous hotel. It was built in 1930 and was used as a rest stop for cattlemen during its first 40 years. In 1955, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Rock Hudson stayed at the Hotel Paisano while filming the movie "Giant." The hotel has 33 guest rooms decorated in 1930s style, a 100-seat banquet room, indoor swimming pool, restaurant and room dedicated to the movie "Giant." This room contains memorabilia from the movie, which plays continuously for guests. Guest accommodation is divided into single rooms, suites, deluxe historic rooms and mezzanine patio rooms that look down onto the hotel's pool.

    Thunderbird Hotel

    • Operating since 1959, the Thunderbird Hotel was renovated into a 1950s-style horseshoe shape for a 2005 reopening. Each of the hotel's guest rooms contains a queen-size bed and day bed, flat-screen television, DVD player, iPod-compatible clock radio, mini bar, original artwork and Indian cotton bedding. Guest rooms are accented in pecan wood, with cowhide rugs and recessed lighting. The hotel's gift shop sells a variety of Marfa-related items, including Marfa Mystery Lights mugs and cowhide rugs.

    Cibolo Creek Ranch

    • If you visit the Marfa area and want to get back to nature, the Cibolo Creek Ranch is an option. Set on 32,000 acres, the ranch features three restored forts that were converted to living quarters. Guest rooms feature king-size, queen-size or twin beds, traditional Mexican architecture, adobe fireplaces and hand-stitched quilts. An on-site dining room can accommodate up to 42 people to enjoy the ranch's fine dining. Guests can make use of an outdoor pool, fitness center and spa. The ranch is home to deer, elk, buffalo, quail and turkeys.
