Many business entrepreneurs from India own hotels in the U.S.A., and the number is rising, according to an article published in 2007 by USA Today. From upscale establishments, such as the internationally known Taj brand of hotels, to popular franchise brands like Hilton, Indian hotels exist all over the U.S.A. Other hotels in the U.S. operated by Indian business owners, such Diplomat Hotels, include Holiday Inns, Days Inns and other well-known places to stay.
The Diplomat Hotel Company's owner, Mukesh "Mike" Patel and his brother, R.C. Patel, hold the title of being both the first Indians, and also the first Asian owners of a franchiser hotel chain in the U.S., according to the July 2007 Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) magazine, Lodging Business. The Indian-owned franchise, known as Budgetel Inns & Suites, operates hotels in the U.S.A. including regions such as Georgia and Texas. Additionally, the company's website states that the Diplomat Hotel Company has bought and resold 75 properties totaling over $250 million, as of 2011. The Patel brothers specialize in Comfort Inns, Holiday Inns and similar style hotels in the U.S.A.

LTD Hospitality Group began as an idea in the 1970s when two Indian immigrants, Dilip Desai and Hari Thakkar, worked to purchase a single hotel property in the U.S.A. According to the 2007 USA Today article, the 1970s surged with new Indian hotels and, after purchasing the hotel in 1983, LTD Hospitality Group became realty. The Indian owned hotel chain now includes over 30 properties in the U.S.A., specifically in Illinois, Maryland and Virginia. According to the company website, LTD Hospitality Group evolved to include well-known hotels such as Marriott and Hilton brands.
The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) operates the Taj line of hotels in the U.S.A. and worldwide. Taj Hotels include high-end properties in Boston, New York and, most recently, San Francisco. In addition to the historic quality of the buildings and the luxury accommodations, Taj Hotel properties also offers guests award-winning cuisine in the hotel restaurants. IHCL also operates the world famous Taj Mahal Palace & Tower built in 1902 in Mumbai, India.
Hasmukh P. Rama started the JHM line of Indian hotels in 1969 in California, which now includes the entire Rama family and more than 40 properties in the U.S. Based in South Carolina, JHM Hotels manages Marriott, Hilton and other brands of hotels throughout the U.S.A. Rama and his properties received numerous awards over the years, including the AAHOA’s Arthur Landstreet Award. The AAHOA honored Rama with the organization’s top award for his to educational programs in India. As an international company, JHM Hotels also owns and operates JHM Interstate Hotels in India.
