Morris Fork is a "holler" deep in the hills of southeastern Kentucky. For those unfamiliar with Appalachian terminology, a "holler" is a valley or a glen. About three and a half miles long, the area is sparsely populated and very isolated. The area is rife with colorful names including Sebastian's Branch, Canoe, Cow Creek, Turkey and Shoulderblade. Located in Breathitt County, Morris Fork is about 14 miles east of Boonville and 90 miles from Lexington.
Located 29 miles from Morris Fork, the GuestHouse Inn and Suites in Hazard is about a 40-minute drive through the twisting roads of Breathitt County. The hotel offers single king or double queen rooms. Suite rooms are available with extra living space. King suites feature a Jacuzzi, and all rooms have a microwave and refrigerator. Newly renovated in 2008, the Super 8 in Hazard is one of the closest accommodations to Morris Fork, but still at least a 30-minute drive to the remote community. Located near Mammoth Onyx Cave and Buckhorn State Park, the hotel offers free Wi-Fi, free local calls and microwaves and refrigerators in every room. A complimentary breakfast is provided daily. Rooms are either standard doubles or single kings with a few three-bed suites. There is plenty of dining in walking distance including Giovanni's Pizza, Captain D's, the Huddle House and La Pena Mexicana.
The Hampton Inn in Hazard offers guests 66 rooms with either a single king or two queens. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and a complimentary breakfast. The hotel houses an indoor pool and adjacent fitness center. In addition to AAA and AARP discounts, the hotel offers a variety of packages available on their web site. There are several restaurants within walking distance, including Lee's Famous Recipe serving American cuisine and Giovanni's serving Italian food.
Located just off Highways 15 and 80, America's Best Value Inn is on the edge of Hazard and a 30-minute drive from Morris Fork. The hotel offers 60 double and single rooms with either full, queen or king sized beds. Amenities include a microwave; refrigerator; wireless Internet; and free HBO, Stars and Cinemax. The Panda Inn serves Chinese cuisine and is just 100 yards down the road. Applebee's is a half-mile walk, as is Frances's Diner, both serving American Cuisine.
