U.S. Route 82 is an east-to-west highway that runs from Brunswick, Georgia, all the way to Alamogordo, New Mexico. One major city served by the highway is Lubbock, Texas, home of Texas Tech University. Route 82 enters the city from the northeast and runs at an angle through the city, exiting to the southwest. Route 82 through Lubbock offers several hotel options.
The first group of hotels you'll find when entering Lubbock from the northeast is in the North Overton neighborhood, between Interstate 27 and the Texas Tech campus. Exiting Route 82 onto Avenue Q will bring you straight to the Super 8, the Radisson, the La Quinta Inn, the Travelers Inn, the Holiday Inn and the Roadway Inn. Numerous restaurants are within walking distance of these hotels, including Taco Bell, Pancake House, Denny's and Wingstop. A Wal-Mart Supercenter is also within walking distance.
Traveling further on Route 82, right past the Texas Tech University campus, will bring you to a group of Covenant medical facilities: Covenant Medical Center, Covenant Children's Hospital and Covenant Specialty Center. Several hotels are in this area off Route 82, including La Quinta Inn and Suites, the Lubbock Inn, the Country Inn, the Guesthouse Inn, Hawthorn Suites and Studio 6 Extended Stay Suites. These hotels are just blocks away from Maxey Park, which has a playground, basketball courts and a boating and fishing pond.
As you continue to drive through Lubbock, you'll start approaching the city's outskirts after the Highway 289 underpass. Here you'll find the Best Western Palms Hotel and Suites and the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Lubbock West off Route 82. These hotels are adjacent to a Sam's Club warehouse store. Chili's and Cracker Barrel restaurants are within one mile of both hotels, as is a Starbucks.
One final Route 82 hotel lies right outside of Lubbock in the southwestern suburb of Wolfforth, Texas. The Holiday Inn Express and Suites Lubbock/Wolfforth is a 20-minute drive from the center of Lubbock, off routes 82 and 62. The hotel serves a complimentary hot breakfast every morning, and Pizza Hut and Sonic restaurants are right across the street. Other local restaurants include Chicken Express and KFC. This hotel has an indoor swimming pool.
