Barker's Island Inn rests on Superior Island in the center of Lake Superior Bay in Wisconsin. The name of the hotel pays homage to Captain Charles S. Barker, an influential contractor and ship's captain who left a legacy to the island upon his death in 1917. The tiny island is just big enough to house the full-service hotel, a marina and a handful of outdoor activities. The grounds consist of an indoor and outdoor pool, sauna and restaurant boasting a lake view. Breakfast is included in the room cost Sunday through Thursday.
Lake Superior Lodge in Ashland, Wisconsin, is a stately cabin located 100 yards from Lake Superior's shore. The rooms are spacious and clean; many provide a balcony overlooking Lake Superior's peaceful beaches. Additional balconies face into the interior of the lodge, allowing a guest direct access to an indoor pool. The lodge is prepared to accommodate wedding parties with 54 nonsmoking rooms, a bridal suite and a banquet hall.
The Holiday Inn Express offers basic hotel amenities in the coastal town of Superior Wisconsin. Superior is located near the border on Minnesota, giving guests access to the attractions of Duluth Minnesota. In fact the cities Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin, are home to an area called Twin Ports. Attractions in the Twin Ports include the Lake Superior Aquarium, the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center and the head of the Osaugie Trail, to name a few.
The Days Inn of Superior, located near the Holiday Inn Express, is near Lake Superior's chilly waters. The Days Inn in Superior closed for remodeling in September of 2010 and is set to open in summer 2011. The rooms offer basic amenities, with a coffeemaker and free HBO in each room. The hotel serves a complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby every morning. An indoor pool, whirlpool and sauna are on-site to keep guests occupied during colder vacation days.
