Lowell Point is on the northwest side of Resurrection Bay at the foot of Bear Mountain in southern Alaska. At the 2000 Census the population was 92, and in 2009 the population was estimated at 76. In the summer, the population swells to around 500 with campers and renters at cabins and lodges. Lowell Point has no hotels, but Seward, two miles away, has several.
Hotel Seward features 62 rooms across two wings, the Alaskan Wing and the Historic Wing. All rooms have pillow-top beds, free wireless Internet access, and flat-screen television with HBO. The lobby has a history and wildlife display with historic photos. Guests can dine at the hotel restaurant and bar, Gene's Place. The Van Gilder Hotel offers 23 rooms in a three-story building built in 1916. Rooms feature comfortable antique-style brass beds, cable television and complimentary wireless Internet access. For the budget-conscious, four rooms have shared bathrooms. The hotel features Victorian period antiques, including a player piano and a collection of Alaskan books and photo histories. A continental breakfast is included in room rates and guests can use a communal kitchen. This is a non-smoking hotel.
Seward Windsong Lodge is four miles from Seward. It comprises 180 guest rooms spread out in a wooded setting and connected by paved paths to the main lodge. Rooms have a rustic decor and feature flat-screen television, wireless Internet access, DVD player, full bath, hair dryer, coffee maker and telephone. Guests dine at the Resurrection Roadhouse in the main lodge. A free shuttle operates to Seward.
The Breeze Inn is located by Seward's small boat harbor. Rooms range from standard to deluxe Jacuzzi suites and feature flat-panel televisions, full cable with HBO and free wireless Internet access. Added touches include evening chocolate chip cookies, in-room gourmet coffee and free local calls. The Restaurant at the Breeze is American family style featuring hamburgers, french fries, chili, fish and Alaskan-influenced dishes. An Alaska-themed lounge features pool tables and large-screen televisions.
