Hotels Overlooking the Hudson River in New York City

When visiting New York, nothing beats staying in a room that lets you take in some of the surrounding gorgeous views. One of the best vistas is of the famous Hudson River. After a day of sightseeing and fighting the crowds, it's nice to watch the calm waters and less hectic riverbank across the the way. From Battery Park to Riverside Drive, there are plenty of hotels overlooking the Hudson River in New York City.

  1. Hotel Gansevoort

    • The Hotel Gansevoort, just below 14th Street, is perfect for picturesque views of the Hudson. The hotel itself is right at home in Manhattan's modern and trendy Meatpacking District. Inside, the rooms are sophisticated yet minimal. On-site amenities include a hair salon, a 5,000-square-foot spa and the hotel's own lounge and music venue. Features like this make it a magnet for young professionals. With 14 floors, it's not the tallest lodging in the city, but since the Gansevoort is only a couple of blocks from the river, most views are unobstructed. Perhaps the hotel's best feature is the outdoor rooftop. If the scene of the Hudson from your room isn't satisfying enough, then seeing it in all its glory while eating dinner or taking a swim on the roof should do the trick.

    Riverside Tower Hotel

    • The Riverside Tower Hotel sits along the Hudson at 80th Street in Manhattan's Upper West Side. This hotel not only offers a wonderful view of the river, but also of quaint Riverside Park just below. The area is more residential than touristy. The hotel itself, with its unassuming green awning, could easily be confused for one of the many surrounding apartment buildings. The rooms are fairly basic, but offer all the standard amenities, such as basic cable television, a mini-fridge and a private bathroom.

    Hilton Hotel Times Square

    • Not all great views of the Hudson are offered by hotels at the river's edge. The Hilton in Times Square is nearly a mile away; however, because the structure is 44 floors high, panoramas of the entire city are available to guests. The rooms in the Hilton Times Square are of standard, mid-luxury quality. Another advantage of this hotel, aside from the vistas, is that Broadway plays and musicals, along with world-class dining, are literally at your doorstep. You get the best of both worlds.

The Ritz-Cartlon New York, Battery Park

    • The Ritz-Carlton has always been synonymous with world-class accommodations. The five-star location at the southern tip of Manhattan is no different. This particular hotel has arguably the best riverfront view in the city. The building is situated in such a way that you can both catch a glimpse of the Hudson and see the entire New York harbor. Views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are about as good as it gets without hopping on a boat and sailing over. All this, of course, is best observed from the rooftop deck atop the hotel.
