The small community of Patten in northern Maine’s Penobscot County had 1,100 residents as of the 2000 census. The town’s proximity to Baxter National Park and Mount Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak, make it a perfect destination for outdoorsmen and nature lovers. The Bradford House Bed and Breakfast is housed in a pre-Civil War building that’s on the National Historic Registry. Originally a family farm, the current owners turned it into a bed and breakfast in 1998. Three upstairs rooms are available for rent, two with a queen-sized bed and one with a double bed. A single party may rent the entire floor. A fresh breakfast is served every morning with home baked scones and fresh eggs from the farm’s chickens. There’s a weekend getaway special, with champagne upon arrival and a baked lobster dinner on Saturday night.
