The small community of Patten in northern Maine’s Penobscot County had 1,100 residents as of the 2000 census. Originally a family farm, the current owners turned it into a bed and breakfast in 1998. Three upstairs rooms are available for rent, two with a queen-sized bed and one with a double bed. A single party may rent the entire floor. A fresh breakfast is served every morning with home baked scones and fresh eggs from the farm’s chickens. There’s a weekend getaway special, with champagne upon arrival and a baked lobster dinner on Saturday night.

    Mountain Glory Farm

    • This renovated farmhouse in Patten contains two apartments for vacationers. The North Apartment is designed for one or two people. It has a barbecue deck and a sitting room facing Mount Katahdin. The South Apartment sleeps up to four and has a spacious living room and a view of the mountains. Mountain Glory Farm is close to Baxter National Park, which offers hiking, birding, wildlife and winter sports like snowmobiling. There are restaurants nearby in Patten and surrounding towns, but the units offer full kitchens for cooking and baking.

    • The Baxter Park Inn in Millinocket is 28.6 miles from Patten, and one of the closest internationally-affiliated hotels near the town. Sewall House is located in Island Falls, 12.2 miles from Patten. There are six private rooms and shared bath facilities. There’s a $25 extra charge for a full bath.
