Hotels in Gustavus, AK

Gustavas, Alaska is located 60 miles west of Juneau, the state capital. The town is accessible only by boat or plane -- Glacier Bay National Park entirely surrounds the settlement on the land side. Alaska Airlines has regular service to the area in the summer, and charter boats are also available to get you to the peninsula. Gustavas enjoys relatively mild Alaska weather, with summertime highs in the mid-60s and winter lows in the mid-30s. Kayaking, sport fishing, mountain biking and hiking are popular area activities. The waters around Glacier Bay are rich with king salmon, silver salmon, chum salmon, sockeye salmon and pink salmon as well as halibut.

  1. Lodges

    • Gustavas has four lodges. The Growley Bear Lodge, located just five minutes from the town center, offers a down home atmosphere with home cooked meals in a contemporary log cabin setting.

      Glacier Bay Lodge offers the only accommodation within Glacier National Park. The rooms sleep up to four; there is a restaurant and gift shop available on the property as well.

      Glacier Bay Eagles Nest Lodge focuses on sport fishing. The property has seven rooms available for rent as well as a common dining room that serves three meals a day. The lodge has a fish packing house on-site and will vacuum pack your fish to bring home at the end of your trip.

      The Annie Mae Lodge is located at the edge of southeast Alaska's rain forest. This family run property features an on-site restaurant and a cozy common room with fireplace. Box lunches are available to take on day trips.

    Inns

    • There are four inns located in Gustavas. The Glacier Bay Bear Track Inn has a warm, welcoming lobby with 30-foot ceilings, scenic views on two sides and a walk-around fireplace.

      The Fish-R-Inn has accommodations for up to six people. The dining room prides itself on the Cajun flair of its seafood dishes. They offer fishing charters through Ripple Cove Charters for halibut, salmon and rock fish.

      The Alaskan Anglers Inn features accommodations with a pool table, satellite TV with premier channels, fully equipped commercial kitchen, barbecue deck, fax and wireless internet. They offer fishing trips through Deep Blue Charters.

      The Glacier Bay Country Inn is on 160 acres of Alaskan rain forest overlooking snow-covered mountains. Packages are available that include meals, lodging and area activities.

    Bed & Breakfasts

    • Gustavas has two bed and breakfast properties. The Homestead Bed & Breakfast is located on five acres of an original 1928 homestead. Run by two longtime Gustavas residents, they pride themselves on their garden fresh vegetables and homey surroundings.

      The Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast prides itself on its large garden and fine dining experience. They offer a variety of packages from whale watching to fishing, and will even loan you warm clothes if you need them.

    Guesthouses

    • Budget Rentals offers small cabins on Mt. Fairweather golf course at low rates. Each cabin sleeps six and has a hot plate, microwave and refrigerator. The golf course is a 9 hole, par 36 course.

      Aimee's Guesthouse, located on an original Alaska homestead, has two fully equipped apartments available for short or long-term stays. They are open May through September. A shared library and laundry room is also available.

      Cottonwood Cabin Rentals features individual cabins built in private settings on 10 acres full of spruce, pine and cottonwood trees. Cabins have a small front porch for lounging, and have fully equipped kitchens.
