Hotels in the City of Athens

Athens, the capital of Greece, has long been one of the world's most famous tourist destinations. Sights include the Acropolis and Parthenon, the Olympic Village and its winding, picturesque streets. For this reason, there is a large number of hotels in Athens, ranging from the exclusive five-star to the budget backpacker hostel.

  1. Five-Star Hotels

    • Top-range hotels in Athens will often be centrally located near the city's main attractions and sights. The Hotel Grande Bretagne offers rooms fitted with restored antiques and has an outdoor roof garden bar that has a view of the Acropolis. A total of three bars and three restaurants are available for guests, each offering a different theme and menu. A butler service, business center, spa, hair salon and Athens guide are all available. Other five-star hotels include the King George Palace, the Eridanus Hotel, the Athens Hilton and the Royal Olympic Hotel, all of which will offer similar amenities.

    Three-Star Hotels

    • These hotels, which include the Areos Hotel, the Best Western Museum Hotel and the Athens Cypria Hotel, tend to be on a smaller scale that their four- and five-star counterparts but will still offer many of the same basic facilities such as a bar, complementary breakfast, Internet access and baggage handling. Some of the hotels will include a restaurant. The Plaka Hotel is decorated n a modern style and is situated with a close view of the Acropolis. Rooms have wooden floors and are equipped with Wi-Fi, a 21-inch television, and mini-fridge. Many of the three-star hotels in Athens are family-owned and hence offer a more personal atmosphere.

    Two-Star Hotels

    • While offering a more stripped-down style in terms of amenities, these hotels will vary in quality. Examples include the Hermes Hotel, the Attalos Hotel and the Economy Hotel. The Athens Center Square Hotel is a relatively new boutique-style hotel that offers affordable yet comfortable and modern rooms. A complimentary breakfast is included in the room price, but dinner may only be made for for groups. A rooftop terrace gives a panoramic view of Athens. All rooms have a Wi-Fi Internet connection and safe.

    Hostels

    • These are geared towards young travelers that don't mind sharing their accommodation with other people. As such, they will offer a sports bar, Internet center and bar. Most hostels in Athens will arrange tours and adventures for guests. Athens Backpackers is one of these, and will offer six-, four- and three-bed dorms for both females-only and mixed genders. Self-contained studios and apartments for couples and families are also available. The Student and Travellers Inn offers rooms with one, two, three or four beds that may or may not have a private bathroom.
