Zoar is a village in Ohio's Tuscarawas County with fewer than 200 inhabitants. It is a stopover for those interested in exploring the state's Amish country. The village's history goes back to 1817, when religious dissenters of German heritage known as the Society of Separatists of Zoar founded it. The village boasts only two hotels, though you can find others in the neighboring town of Bolivar.
Zoar School Inn is situated in a historic structure, Zoar's first schoolhouse, which was constructed in 1836. When a new school was built in 1868, the former building of learning became a residential address. In 2011, it serves as a hotel with four en suite suites and is run by the husband and wife team of Joe and Gayle Potelicki.
Like the Zoar School Inn, the Cider Mill of Zoar is also lodged in a historic building. The village's Cider Mill was built in 1863. It contains four guest rooms, each of which comes with a private bathroom. Guests are served breakfast each morning, while in the evenings, homemade cookies and a selection of beverages---including, of course, cider---are on offer.
The local Sleep Inn is located just eight minutes outside of Zoar in nearby Bolivar. Within a short driving distance, you will find one of the world's largest Amish communities, as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The hotel also provides guests with access to 10 professional golf courses; special packages can be arranged. For recreation and relaxation, the Sleep Inn has an indoor swimming pool and a hot tub. Refrigerators can be rented on the premises. The hotel has a total of 58 guest rooms and a meeting room that can hold up to 25 participants. While there is no restaurant on the premises, there are plenty of places to eat in the surrounding area, including Dairy Queen, the Firehouse Tavern, McDonald's and Pizza Hut.
Enchanted Pines is a small bed and breakfast-style getaway with three rooms located in Bolivar. Breakfast includes fresh oven-baked muffins each morning. The hotel is located on six acres of private grounds where guests can enjoy hiking, swimming in the outdoor swimming pool, relaxing in the hot tub or sitting in the swings on the front porch. Each day, the hosts offer a Victorian afternoon tea, while at night, they set up an outdoor campfire.
