Hotels Near Kinderhook, New York

Kinderhook is an historical town in the eastern part of New York state in the Hudson River Valley. Kinderhook got its start as a Dutch village in the early part of the 1600s. Washington Irving wrote "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" while staying in Kinderhook. Although the town features many historical points of interest, it does not have much in the way of hotel lodging. The only hotel in the actual town itself is a bed-and-breakfast establishment.

    • The Van Schaack House in Kinderhook itself is an upscale bed-and-breakfast establishment. It has four rooms that ranged in price from $150 a night to $210 in January 2011. Guests receive a full breakfast each morning at a hotel that its website says hosted dignitaries such as Aaron Burr, Martin Van Buren and Washington Irving. Located on a well-maintained landscaped property, the house has its own gym, library and computer room. Points of interest in Kinderhook include the one-room Ichabod Crane School House and the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site, which was the home of the eighth U.S. president. Guests can also visit the Columbia County Museum in town or eat at its numerous restaurants.

    Best Western New Baltimore Inn

    • The Best Western New Baltimore Inn is located approximately 28 miles to the southwest of Kinderhook, on the other side of the Hudson River. Conveniently near an exit on Interstate 87, the hotel features a free breakfast, indoor swimming pool and hot tub, fitness center, and game rooms. Rooms started as low as $64 a night in the winter of 2011. Pets are allowed at the hotel for a minimal fee. The hotel is four miles from the Bronck Museum, which features what may be the oldest remaining dwelling in upstate New York. The hotel is two miles from shopping and dining opportunities at the Village of Coxsackie.

    Blue Spruce Inn & Suites

    • Situated two miles to the northeast of Kinderhook in the town of Valatie, the Blue Spruce Inn & Suites had rooms listing at $65 a night in January 2011. The rooms are slightly higher during the spring, summer and fall months. Rooms are also available on a weekly basis. The hotel, which has an outdoor pool, promotes its coffee shop, where guests receive a hot cooked breakfast from May through November. The family-owned hotel is located on 10 acres. Attractions in Valatie include Golden Harvest Farms, which is known for its home-made apple cider along with its apple and pumpkin harvests.

    Chatham Bed & Breakfast

    • The Chatham Bed & Breakfast, situated approximately 10 miles to the southeast of Kinderhook, is a restored 1898 home that offers quick access to three ski resorts in the area. The owners promote its daily hot breakfast that includes seasonal ingredients from local farmers. The establishment has four rooms with the lowest one starting at $100 a night as of the winter of 2011. An unusual aspect to this hotel is the fact it has no TVs. Guests do, however, receive free snacks and beverages. Guests can also walk to the many antique, wine and book shops in Chatham. The town also features the the Mac Hayden Theater, fine-dining restaurants and pubs with a local ambiance.
