Otto, New York is a town of 804 people, as of July 2009. The town, in southwestern New York near the Pennsylvania border, is surrounded by state forests such as Cattaragus State Forest, Dobbins Memorial State Forest and East Otto State Forest, and is 20 miles from Allegany State Park. There are no hotels in Otto itself, but there is a variety of lodging choices in Ellicottville, just seven to eight miles southeast of Otto.
The Edelweiss Lodge in Ellicottville is on 5 1/4 acres and features rooms, chalets, apartments and houses on its property. The lodge is 3/4 mile from the Holiday Valley Ski Resort and within walking distance of downtown Ellicottville, which features restaurants such as the Ellicottville Brewing Company, Coolings Cafe and the Barn Restaurant. The Edelweiss Lodge has a self-service breakfast room on-site, a fire pit and four full-size tennis courts. There are no telephones in any room at the lodge.
The Ilex Inn is on the northeast side of Ellicottville. The inn has six guest rooms, all with fireplaces, and a cottage that adjoins the main house. The Ilex Inn sits on a large tract of virgin land, and guests can snowmobile and cross-country ski on the inn property. The inn is 1,000 feet from the center of Ellicottville, which boasts restaurants like The Gin Mill sports bar/restaurant, the Tips Up Cafe and The Silver Fox Steakhouse. The property is close to the Holiday Valley Ski Resort to the south and the Nannen Arboretum to the north. Also nearby is the HoliMont Ski Clib, the largest private ski club in North America. Pets are not allowed at the Ilex Inn.
The Inn at Holiday Valley is in the Holiday Valley Ski Resort and is located at the base of the Sunrise Quad Chairlift. The inn has ski-in/ski-out access to the resort, and private ski lockers are available in the inn. All rooms will sleep two to four people. Dining opportunities at the resort include John Harvard's Brew House, MaCarty Cafe and The Marketplace Cafe, and the restaurants of downtown Ellicottville are approximately one mile north of the resort.
The Kelly House Lodge is a five-minute walk from the shops, restaurants and clubs of downtown Ellicottville. The lodge has four rooms on the main floor and four on the upper floor, furnished with queen beds and bunk beds. The lower level has six rooms, furnished with bunk beds, and three shared bathrooms. The lodge also has a separate building, called The Bunk House, with double-bunk beds and a private bathroom. Breakfast is served in "The Diner," a room that has been modeled to look like a typical diner with a soda fountain and seats at the counter.
