Hotels at Ayers Rock, Australia

Ayers Rock, otherwise known as Uluru, is a natural sandstone formation that stands at a majestic 1,142 feet high with a 5.8-mile circumference. Located in the Northern Territory, central Australia, Ayers Rock lies approximately 208 miles southwest of Alice Springs.


The Ayers Rock Hotel and Resorts is the only hotel operator in the area and features a variety of hotel accommodations offering luxurious amenities and services. Each hotel's concierge can help guests organize tours to Ayers Rock (about four miles away) that allow visitors to climb and view the formation at different hours of the day. Ayers Rock is known for changing colors throughout each day and glows a dark red color as the sun sets.

    • The Sails in the Desert is located near Ayers Rock and it can organize travel tours to Uluru, Alice Springs and Kings Canyon. The hotel has white sails that sits atop its roof and is decorated inside with Aboriginal décor and artifacts.

      The facility features luxurious amenities and services that include 24-hour front desk and concierge assistance, airport transfers and an art gallery. Each room has a mini bar, on-demand movies, bathrobes and private air conditioning. The hotel operates two on-site restaurants called the Winkiku Restaurant and Rockpools that serve a large variety of Australian fare and international cuisines.

    Desert Gardens Hotel

    • The Desert Gardens Hotel is close to the entrance to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and is set amid Australian flora, fauna and wildlife. Guests can enjoy viewing gum trees, native shrubs and wallabies that surround the hotel. The Desert Gardens features an outdoor heated swimming pool, a cocktail lounge and luxurious rooms with private balconies.

      Each of the hotel's rooms is equipped with two double-beds or a king-size bed, a balcony or private courtyard, air conditioning and mini bars. The hotel's on-site restaurant is called the Arnguli Grill, which serves an array of Australian fare meat and seafood dishes that are all flame grilled.

    Longitude 131

    • Longitude 131 features luxurious accommodations that are eco-friendly and romantic. It is located at the edge of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Ayers Rock. The hotel provides 15 luxurious tent rooms that have reverse-cycle air-conditioning and large blinds that can be raised each morning for breathtaking views of the Australian outback and such wildlife as kangaroos and wallabies.

      Each tent also has a private bathroom with hot and cold running water and a writing desk. Longitude 131 operates an on-site restaurant called Table 131 that allows dining under the stars each night. The restaurant serves a large selection of Australian cuisine and Australian wines.
