Presho, South Dakota was named for New Yorker J.S. Presho, a settler and ferry operator who came to the area in 1858. It is near some of South Dakota's most famous landmarks and attractions, including the presidential bust mountain sculpture, Mount Rushmore. While Presho only features one motel, numerous motels exist in the surrounding areas.
Hutch's Motel is the only motel located in Presho and offers visitors 28 rooms, as well as a cafe and lounge. Gerry's Motel and Budget Host Inn are two motels located on the same property 10 miles east of Presho, in Kennebec. The inn offers guests slightly larger rooms than the motel, although guests have the opportunity to park right in front of their room at the motel. Small- to medium-sized dogs are allowed in the motel during dry weather only for a one-time fee. The motel and inn are near attractions such as Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park, which covers 244,000 acres and is one of the largest protected mixed-grass prairies in the United States.

The Super 8 Motel in Murdo is a pet-friendly motel situated west of Presho, past the towns of Vivian and Draper. It is located next to a BP convenience store, bar and casino as well as a 24-hour truck stop and a diner, sandwich shop and homemade ice cream parlor. Additional nearby restaurants include Casa Blanca for Italian cuisine and the Rusty Spur Steakhouse and Bar. Local attractions include the Pioneer Auto Museum, which features antique automobiles. Those with pets must pay a fee of $5 a day, as of 2010.
