Bolton, in Lancashire, England is a small city about 20 miles northwest of Manchester's city center. The city historically produced textiles, with a large agricultural base in the surrounding area providing cotton and other fibers. It is an administrative part of Greater Manchester and encompasses 54 square miles of nearby townships. Bolton has a long history, dating back to the Bronze Age, and is currently home to a pub that has been around since the 13th century -- The Old Man & Scythe. There are few hotels in the town, although accommodations can be found in the surrounding area.
The Holiday Inn in Bolton Centre is one of the only hotels in the town proper, and it is directly across the street from the Market Place Bolton, a large shopping mall. The hotel is a contemporary building that has annexed a 16th century church and converted it for use as an event hall. All of the hotel's 132 rooms and suites have Internet connections, multiple phones and private bathrooms. The hotel has a large business center with copying, fax, printing and secretarial services available. On-site leisure activities include a fitness center with a pool, sauna and gym. Hardies Restaurant is on-site, provides three meals a day and 24-hour room service.
