Many traditional one-owner beachfront hotels in Gulf Shores, Alabama, have been replaced by beachfront condominiums. Gulf Shores still has its share of traditional hotels, but most have moved inland from the prime beach property. Some of the beachfront condos are referred to as condotels, which means that although each room or suite is individually owned, it operates in the typical hotel fashion.
Best Western on the beach is the sole surviving traditional beachfront hotel in Gulf Shores. It has an indoor heated swimming pool, an outdoor pool, two hot tubs and a kiddie pool. The Island Pancake House where you may dine with a full view of the beach and gulf is onsite. Additional amenities include free high-speed Internet, satellite or cable television and truck/RV parking. Heavy damage by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 closed its doors temporarily, but it was soon repaired and back in operation. The Island Pancake House opened in the location of the previous Denny’s restaurant that ended its operation with Ivan’s destruction.

Phoenix All Suites Hotel is a multi-owner condotel located on East Beach Boulevard in downtown Gulf Shores. Each suite in the complex has a beachfront balcony with a view of the Gulf and its white, sandy beaches. It is conveniently located to many beach shops, surf shops and restaurants, including the famous Pink Pony Pub and The Hangout. Although each rental is only a one-bedroom suite, it sleeps from 4 to 6, with most suites having a king-sized bed in the bedroom, an additional sofa sleeper and set of bunk beds in the remainder of the suite. Amenities include a swimming pool, kiddie pool, fully-equipped kitchen and laundry room onsite.
