Taking its name from the 500 year old bridge that straddles the central canal, Hebden Bridge is a former textile town nestled in the Pennine Mountains. The overgrown ruins of old mills dot the valleys and add diversity to this now-modern area. While its roots are in trade and industry, Hebden Bridge is now home to a growing artistic community, organic cafes and over 100 shops. Hotels line the city streets and cater to guests of this "funky" British town.
Housed in an old Victorian building, the Bar Place is a small, centrally located hotel. Each of the hotel's eight guest rooms includes an LCD TV with CD and DVD player and complementary wireless Internet access, while each of the four themed rooms includes additional amenities like a chaise lounge, floor-to-ceiling mirrors and remote-controlled dimmer lighting. A full English breakfast is included in the rate for every room. The Bar Place restaurant prepares tapas-style dishes and English specialties like fish and chips, while the bar serves a wide range of coffee and tea, mixed drinks, wine, ales and beer in a lively, contemporary setting. Less than two miles from Hebden Bridge is the village of Heptonstall, where visitors can tour the Grammar School Museum and the remains of the 13th-century "old" church or visit the grave of poet Sylvia Plath.
