Great Places for Breakfast in Soho, NYC

Although SoHo is famous for having some of the hippest and trendiest bars, clubs, and nightspots in Manhattan, what many people may not be aware of is that it has an array of very competitive, high-quality restaurants that possess notable breakfast menus. These menus distinguish themselves from the plethora of run-of-the-mill diners and cafes around the city.

  1. The Cupping Room Cafe

    • The Cupping Room Cafe, situated on Broadway, just off of Broome Street, has been located in the center of SoHo since 1977. It describes itself as a classic restaurant with high ceilings, real bouquets of flowers, and exposed brick. Although the restaurant serves all three meals, its breakfasts, which offer an array of baked goods baked on the premises, are particularly special. Thus, all the cafe's bagels, croissants, date-nut breads, danishes, cookies, and muffins are homemade. The menu provides several fruit and granola or fruit and cereal dishes, as well as eggs served any style, any omelet under the sun, including a Nova Scotia omelet. It also offers stuffed French toast, which is filled with cream cheese and dried fruit. There's live music in the evening on Wednesdays and Fridays.

    The Mercer Kitchen

    • The Mercer Kitchen occupies two floors of the famous Mercer Hotel in the core of SoHo, located on Prince and Mercer Streets. It's considered a casual restaurant, with communal seating and several banquet-style tables to promote a relaxed atmosphere. Executive chef Jean Georges created what the restaurant calls an "American Provencal" homemade grain cereal with fresh fruit such as blueberries or bananas, a baked goods basket with croissants, muffins, and pastries, and cinnamon granola with berries. Aside from pancakes, waffles, and French toast with fruits, the restaurant offers a plate of smoker fish and other breakfast meats such as applewood smoked bacon. It offers standard types of juice as well as carrot and pomegranate juice.

    Cafe Gitane

    • Cafe Gitane is a part-Moroccan, part-French restaurant with a European atmosphere and cozy but elegant decorations. The restaurant is famous for its avocado toast and offers an array of unique breakfast dishes, such as baked eggs with salmon, a brie and apple baguette, and a humus, feta, and pita plate. For a lighter breakfast, you can order a simple baguette with jam. The cafe serves orange juice that is fresh squeezed.
