If you are looking for a bizarre hotel to stay at in Colorado, you will not be at a loss. The state seems to be famous for their spooky accommodation establishments. Whether or not the stories are true, chances are you are going to feel a little creeped out when you visit!
At present, the Schwartz Hotel is used primarily for artists, musicians and large groups of people traveling together. Perhaps it is slightly offbeat in that sense, yet the true bizarre factor lies in the reported hauntings of the establishment. Two tales roam the hallways. Allegedly, in the 1800s, when the establishment operated as a boarding house, a father and son got into a fight and shot each other. Eerie lights flicker in the building and people get strange feelings of a presence around them. Allegedly, one woman was so frightened that she hung herself, and people claim to see her apparition wandering through the building.

With its connections to the famed horror film "The Shining," it was only natural that the Stanley Hotel would make the list of Colorado's bizarre hotels. Go on a ghost tour during your stay to see room 217, where the conception of "The Shining" began, and to hear ghost tales and visit the hotel's most haunted rooms. Your rooms will not be scary though, as they are updated with modern conveniences. Both regular guestrooms and suites are available, and include amenities such as 42-inch flat screen televisions, wireless Internet and a complimentary morning newspaper from Monday through Friday.

For a real haunt, visit the Victor Hotel. After the town was destroyed by a fire in 1899, the elevator in the hotel was used to bring dead bodies up to the fourth floor where they were stored until the ground thawed in the spring for burial. Guests have reported seeing ghosts missing arms, legs and other body parts. Eddie, one of the ghosts, often visits the hallways, elevator and room 301. If you want to get away from the haunts for awhile, visit one of the nearby attractions such as the Victor Lowell Thomas Museum or the Gold Belt National Scenic Byway.
