Yellowstone National Park, in the northwest of Wyoming, is known for its rugged beauty and pristine wilderness. However, that does not mean that visitors to the park have to forgo comfort when they stay overnight.
Old Faithful Lodge is a rustic inn adjacent to the eponymous geyser, arguably Yellowstone's most famous sight. The lodge, built at the turn of the last century, has a beautiful interior with a large fireplace in its lobby and a crow's nest where musicians once played, all sculpted from local lodgepole pines. The building's style founded the "parkitecture" movement found in many national parks today. Suites have sitting rooms, refrigerators and full private baths, although there are also cheaper accommodations available.
Lake Yellowstone Hotel is another elegant option, with a stunning view across the lake. The Southern Colonial-style hotel has been carefully restored to 1920s decadence, with period wicker furniture in the sun room and fine dining on-site. The Presidential suite has a sitting room, two bedrooms, two full bathrooms and a telephone, while other premium rooms have a mix of these amenities.
In winter, visitors can only stay in one of two hotels: Old Faithful Snow Lodge & Cabins and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel. The western-style Old Faithful rooms are the more luxurious of the two, with full bathrooms and telephones in lodge rooms.
