Tishomingo, Oklahoma is the historic capital of the Chickasaw Nation and is the site, every autumn, of the tribe's annual meeting and heritage festival. Exhibitions at the Chickasaw Council House Museum and National Capital Building relate the story of the "Trail of Tears" relocation to Oklahoma in the 1930s. The area's other attractions include trout fishing on the Blue River, the Tishomingo National Fish Hatchery and the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge.
