Gas City in Grant County, Indiana, was formerly known as Harrisburg until 1892, when a large quantity of natural gas was found in the area. After Gas City Land Company formed in 1892, the name of the town was changed to Gas City. The city had a population of 5,666 as of July 2009 and boasts modern hotels, restaurants and stores.
