Pforzheim has long been known as the "City of Gold," home to the center of German watchmakers, jewelry makers and the Worlds of Jewelry Museum where visitors experience the history of jewelry making through an extensive use of media. After the World War II air raid on February 23, 1945, Pforzheim was completely demolished and it took nearly two decades to rebuild. The Hotel Residenz is just off the A8 motorway in Pforzheim. An average guest room is 72 square feet, not including the room's balcony and is furnished with a wooden headboard, bed, large writing desk and a satellite television with English, French and Italian channels. If you require wireless Internet, you must mention this during your reservation. Although the Hotel Residenz does not have a fitness room, guests may ask for a pass to use Fitness First, a gym located a quarter mile from the hotel, for €5 per day. The modern Hotel Royal is located near the A8 motorway and half of a mile from the Hotel Residenz. With just 43 rooms, the Hotel Royal is small but perfect for the business traveler with convenient parking in the front of the hotel and in the underground garage. Non-smokers are warned to book early since only 19 of their rooms are non-smoking. Room sizes range from a single room with the choice of either two beds or a couch to a Royal double room with a separate hall and a large bathroom with a bath tub.
