The city of Plettenberg, located in the Sauerland region of southern North Rhine-Westphalia in central western Germany, has a number of hotels. Several are housed in historic buildings, as the city was founded already in 14th century. While the city itself only has about 20,000 inhabitants, several of the hotels are located near the Ostertalsperre, a man-made reservoir that provides fresh water and hydropower for the Rhineland.
The hotel and restaurant Zur Ostertalsperre is located on the shore of the Ostertalsperre reservoir. In summer, guests can relax on the sundeck of the hotel, and in winter enjoy a drink in the lounge, heated by a traditional wood-fired stove. Guests can choose from accomodation with breakfast only, or a full course with additional lunch and dinner. The hotel restaurant works on the principle of simplicity, using locally produced ingredients wherever possible.
