The coastal island city of Galveston, Texas, is home to a number of hotels and beach resorts. Unfortunately, the closest major airport to Galveston, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, is about 70 miles to the northeast, in Houston. However, if you're flying into Bush Airport and staying in Galveston, you won't necessarily have to rent a car. A few Galveston-area hotels and resorts offer shuttle service to and from the airport.
The Holiday Inn Hotel Resort Galveston on the Beach is, true to its name, located right on the Gulf of Mexico. Shuttle service to the resort from Bush Airport, and vice versa, is available for a charge of $65 per person one way, as of August 2010. A one-way taxi ride would cost approximately $90. All rooms at the resort include cable television, high-speed Internet access and a mini-refrigerator. The resort has an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, an on-site restaurant with available room service and an on-site bar.

The Hotel Galvez and Spa is an historic circa 1911 hotel located "steps away from the magnificent Gulf of Mexico," according to the hotel's web site. The hotel is 71 miles away from Bush Intercontinental Airport. A shuttle service to and from the airport is offered for a fee of $40 per person, one way, as of August 2010. Taxi service can be arranged for $90 one way, and limo service is available for $110 each way. All rooms at the hotel offer views of either the Gulf of Mexico or the city of Galveston. The hotel has an on-site spa, an outdoor swimming pool and whirlpool and an on-site restaurant.

The Tremont House hotel is located in downtown Galveston's historic Strand district, about 70 miles from the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The hotel is under the same ownership as the Hotel Galvez, and thus offers the same rates and services for transportation to and from the Bush Airport. All rooms and suites at the hotel include free high-speed wireless Internet access, cable television and an iPod docking station. The hotel has an on-site cafe, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room service is also available.
