Swat is a valley and an administrative district in the province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, located approximately 100 miles from Islamadad. As of the 1998 census, the population of the area was approximately 1.26 million people. In 2008, most of the area was captured by the Taliban and as of 2010 is still considered dangerous for tourists. There are, however, several old hotels in the Swat area that are still open and operational.
