Beaches to Stay at in Mobile, Ala.

Alabama's coastal region is small. The Mobile, Ala., area includes not only the city of Mobile but also Mobile County. Since the Alabama coast is so close to the Florida border, local attractions include not only those in Alabama, but also some in Pensacola as well. There are many beaches in and near the Mobile area, as well as small islands, offering resorts, hotels and campgrounds for visitors.
  1. Dauphin Beach

    • Dauphin Beach is on Dauphin Island in Mobile County. The Dauphin Island Campground includes power and water hookups, a room with washers and dryers for clothing, a bathhouse with hot showers, a communal area for grilling, a private boardwalk to the beach, and a souvenir shop. For those who do not like to camp, there are few options for lodging on Dauphin Island. The Holiday Isle condominium resort offers vacation rentals.

    Point Clear at Mobile Bay

    • Point Clear is on Mobile Bay. Among the attractions near Point Clear are the U.S.S. Alabama, the Pensacola Naval Air Museum and the historic district of downtown Mobile. Marriott runs a resort called the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa at Point Clear with 550 acres on Mobile Bay and a European-style spa. The Holiday Inn Eeress offers double and deluxe rooms.

    Gulf Shores

    • Gulf Shores, a popular Alabama beach locale, is only 47 miles from Mobile. There is much to do at Gulf Shores, such as catch-and-release fishing at Gulf State Park, hot air balloon rides and small-plane aerial tours. There is also a museum of local history, with exhibits on hurricanes and fishing equipment used locally. The Perdido Beach resort at Gulf Shores offers private rooms with balconies overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, as well as indoor and outdoor pools, a tennis court, a health club and a pool bar. The Beach Club at Gulf Shores offers rental houses and condos.

    Orange Beach

    • Orange Beach is 50 miles from Mobile, close to Gulf Shores. Visitors to Orange Beach can enjoy not only the beach and the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, but also dolphin-watching cruises. Many of these dolphin-watching cruises include dinner options. There are many hotels around Orange Beach to choose from. The Island House Hotel offers rooms with balconies for views of Orange Beach, along with satellite television and wireless Internet. Nearby are not only beaches but birding areas and historic Fort Morgan.
