When traveling across the United States, you may run into famous motels. Typically, a celebrity or a well-known person, lived or stayed in the accommodation. Or, a major event occurred on the motel premises. If the famed motel is still open, you might even be able to stay in the same room where a famous person slept.
  1. Alta Cienega Motel

    • The renowned legendary rock musician Jim Morrison, lead singer for The Doors, lived in the Alta Cienega Motel from 1968 to 1970 in room 32. The motel room still has Morrison's personal things and portraits. If you want to book a stay in the famed room, a daily rate is $69.95 as of September 2010. Guest accommodations include free Internet access and cable channels. The motel sits at the corner of La Cienega and Santa Monica boulevards in West Hollywood.

    Lorraine Motel

    • Lorraine Motel is notable for the location, where an assassin shot and killed Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, 1968. It was also a motel, where various celebrities booked a room, including Aretha Franklin, Cab Colloway and Nat King Cole. The Lorraine Motel is now the National Civil Rights Museum. You can find the Lorraine Motel in the South Main Historic District of Memphis, Tenn.

    Memory Motel

    • The 1976 "Black and Blue" album by the Rolling Stones features the song, "Memory Motel." People have speculated the title of the ballad refers to the Memory Motel in Montauk, Long Island, New York. The motel provides 13 rooms and live entertainment. Memory Motel sits minutes from the ocean.
