The Great Smoky Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountain range, run along the Tennessee-North Carolina border. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park protects most of the range and is the most visited park in the nation. Vacation home development is heavily controlled to protect the wilderness, but there are places available which offer seclusion. Townsend (population 250), is one of three "gateways" to the park, and has been dubbed "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies."
This secluded cabin is on a tucked-away part of the Little River in the Smoky Mountains and offers a front porch with a view of valley flatlands and mountains. The river is only 100 feet from the back porch, which has a 6-person hot tub. Both front and rear porches offer rocking chairs. The cabin is built of hand-hewn logs which are visible inside and out and has one large room with a king-sized bed and a pull-out queen-sized sleeper couch. The Pioneer has a cathedral ceiling, wooden floors, a stone fireplace and a fully-equipped kitchen. This is a non-smoking cabin, and pets are not allowed. TV and phone are included, as well as linens, towels, central heat and air. Swimming, tubing and fishing are available right out the back door on the river.
