Indoors Water Park Hotels in Kentucky

With families looking for vacation getaways closer to home, indoor water park hotels are becoming a popular destination. Indoor water parks offer similar attractions to the traditional outdoor locations, but everything is under one roof. These parks have swimming pools, lazy rivers, water slides and areas designated for younger children. Many of the hotels also offer packages so that guests can stay at the resort with the park entrance fees included. While Kentucky itself only has one indoor hotel water park options, nearby Ohio and Indiana have several options only a short distance from the border.
  1. Pirates Bay Water Park

    • Pirates Bay Water Park in Shepherdsville, Ky., features five water slides, a pirate ship, water basketball activity area, children's swimming pool and a rock waterfall. Package deals are available for guests that include admittance into the water park. All rooms include flat-screen televisions, a refrigerator and microwave and free Internet access. Other amenities include a laundry facility and free breakfast. The Pirates Bay Cafe is an on-site restaurant. Other nearby options include Cracker Barrel, O'Charley's and Red Lobster, which are within two miles of the property. The hotel is also within 12 miles of The Kentucky Fair and Expo Center, Kart Country, Churchill Downs and Pap John's Cardinal Stadium.

    The Big Splash Adventure Water Park

    • The Big Splash Adventure Water Park in French Lick, Ind. is about one hour from the Kentucky state line. The 40,000 square foot park includes Buccaneer Bay, the Lost River, Plunder Plunge and the Lost Treasure Lagoon, among a variety of other attractions. The park also has two body slides, an activity area with basketball hoops and Silver Beard's Revenge, which lets visitors ride down the slide on tubes. The rooms have two queen beds or one king bed with cable television, free Internet access and a complimentary breakfast. Each room also comes with admission for four to the water park per each day at the resort. On-site dining options include the Boatyard Restaurant, Galley Grill, Lee Wally's Lounge and the Seaside Market.

    CoCo Key Resort

    • The CoCo Key Resort at the Crowne Plaza Cincinnati North is 10 minutes from the Kentucky border. The 50,000 square foot water park features the Coconut Grove River and Parrot's Perch, an area designed for younger children. The Palm Grotto Indoor/Outdoor Spa includes whirlpools for use by teenagers and adults, and Coral Reef Cavern is an activity pool for children at least 6 years old. One of the highlights of the park is four, 40-foot body and raft slides that wind through the resort. While packages can be purchased that include passes to the water park, visitors can also purchase park-only passes to experience the park's many attractions. Each room offers free Internet access, cable television and a continental breakfast.

    The Great Wolf Lodge

    • The Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio, is about 40 minutes from the Ohio and Kentucky border. It has 12 water slides, six swimming pools, a lazy river and a water fort. Coyote Canyon includes an enclosed slide that lands in a shallow pool and a four-story tree house in the middle of the water park. It includes slides, nets and a bucket that dumps 1,000 gallons of water onto those underneath. A package deal at the Great Wolf Lodge includes a family suite, which fits four comfortably and passes for the entire family to the water park. Other suites are available including the Loft Fireplace Suite, the Majestic Bear Suite and the Wolf Den Suite.
