The Kibbutz Hotel Chain (KHC) offers accommodations in all parts of Israel offering travelers a chance to experience kibbutz life throughout the country.
Kibbutzim (plural) are rural communal living settlements originally based around agriculture. According to the KHC website, "Although still committed to farming the land, many kibbutzim have branched out and become involved in numerous industries. Tourism is one of them."
KHC offers Kibbutz Hotels that are much like mid-sized American hotels with pools, spas and in-room refrigerators, and country lodgings that are more bed and breakfast style with fewer rooms and a central dining room.
According to "Frommer's Israel 2009," rooms in the country lodgings "are a bit less fancy than those in the more up market Kibbutz hotels, but they're adequate, often in beautiful locations and give you a closer look at kibbutz life."
Many KHC hotels are scattered throughout rural areas near national parks. Others are close to historic or archaeological sites from the Golan Heights to the Dead Sea and beyond.
KHC offers the Fly-and-Drive program for travelers desiring the freedom of independent travel via rental car. The Discover Israel program is for those who prefer guided tours of famous areas.
