Are there palm trees in Pennsylvania?

There are no native palm trees in Pennsylvania. The climate in Pennsylvania is too cold for most palm trees to survive. However, there are a few species of palm trees that can be grown in Pennsylvania with some protection from the cold. These include the hardy palm (Trachycarpus fortunei) and the needle palm (Rhapidophyllum hystrix). These palms are both cold-hardy to Zone 7, which means that they can tolerate temperatures down to 10 degrees Fahrenheit. They should be planted in a sheltered location, such as near a building or wall, and they may need to be protected with mulch or a frost blanket during the winter.
