Why did channel island became a national park?

Channel Islands did not become a National Park. It is a National Park Service. Channel Islands National Park was established in 1980 and is comprised of five of the eight Channel Islands off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. The islands are home to a unique ecosystem, including many endemic species of plants and animals, and are a popular destination for recreation and tourism.
