Cottage Getaways in Michigan

Michigan is a state that has a coastline on three of the Great Lakes, and a large percentage of the state is covered with national and state forests. It is not surprising that tourists flock to the state to "getaway" from city life and enjoy some of Michigan's wild beauty. Numerous resorts offering cottage accommodation can be found in all parts of the state, and in addition, there are many cottages and log cabins offered for rental privately.
  1. Drummond Island Yacht Haven

    • Drummond Island Yacht Haven is located on the island of the same name in the northern reaches of Lake Huron. There are just two ways of getting onto Drummond Island, either by air into the island's 3,650-foot airstrip, or from the mainland at the far eastern extremity of the Upper Peninsula on the island ferry. The resort has 20 cottages overlooking Potagannissing Bay and Harbor Island, and the larger cottages have stone fireplaces with a free supply of firewood. All of the cottages have satellite television and Wi-Fi is available on request. If you want to come in your own boat, the cottages have their own set of floating docks.

    White Birch Lodge

    • White Birch Lodge is a resort located in the far northwest of the Southern Peninsula on the banks of Lake Elk. The Lodge offers five different types of lodging including townhouses and cabins. All of these units are self contained with a kitchen and dining room, though you'll need to check which units have cable television when you book. A visit to this part of the state a visit to remember, and according to the website, families return to vacation here generation after generation.

    Lapinski Log Home

    • The Lapinski Log Home is a good example of a privately owned cottage that is offered for vacation rental. The cottage is located near the city of Gladwin, which is about 25 miles to the west of Saginaw Bay in Lake Huron. The cottage has its own private dock and a small sandy beach area. The building is fitted with air conditioning, satellite and cable television and DVD with a surround sound system. There's a fireplace, a Jacuzzi, and the fully equipped kitchen even has a dishwasher. The only thing you can't take on vacation here is your pet dog.
