The city of Cheboygan has worked to revitalize the downtown area into an ideal destination for shopping and a location to hold public events. In addition to the stores lining the sidewalks, the downtown area is home to the city's farmer's market and special events including the annual Downtown Cheboygan Summer Street Fair and Music Festival. The street fair features an arts and crafts show, street carnival, children's theater program and an American Idol-inspired talent show.
If you're interested in the performing arts, consider a visit to the Cheboygan Opera House. Originally built in 1877, this restored opera house features music concerts, theater productions and art shows. A supporter of arts in education, the city's art council provides numerous opportunities for young people to get involved. The Opera House is home to the Youth Arts Festival as well as the Children's Theatre Series. You can also take dance classes at the facility; genres include ballet, jazz and tap.
