Things to Do in Tecumseh, Michigan

Tecumseh, Michigan is a small town located in Lenawee County, about 60 miles southwest of Detroit. Originally formed by 32 people from Jefferson County, New York in 1824, the town's population has grown, and as of 2006 the U.S. Census Bureau indicates the population has about 8,800 people. Tecumseh has a historic downtown with shopping opportunities and other activities.
  1. Tecumseh Area Historical Museum

    • Tecumseh was one of the first settlements in the state of Michigan, and the Tecumseh Area Historical Museum attempts to preserve this rich history through exhibits that portray the rich history of the community and its neighbors which include the cities of Tipton and Britton. Located in the heart of historic downtown Tecumseh, the museum offers free admission all year long, and opens only on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Tecumseh Area Historical Society also throws events such as the Christmas Decoration Exhibit.

    Take in the Green

    • Tecumseh has two area golf courses -- one at the Hantz Golf Club, once called the Tecumseh Country Club, and the other at the Raisin Valley Golf Course. The front nine holes on the golf course at the Hantz Golf Club are built on flat terrain, while the back nine holes are on hilly terrain, and one pond exists between two of the holes. According to Golf.com, the green fee at the Hantz Golf Club is between $25 and $35 as of February 2011. Raisin Valley is an 18-hole regulation length golf course. As of 2011, the green fees are approximately $15 to $37, according to TheGolfCourses.

    Sip Wine

    • The Pentamere Winery makes over 20 different types of wines. The winery's tasting room located in downtown Tecumseh offers tastings during store hours -- Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The winery also give a class in pairing wines with foods. There is no fee for wine tasting.
