How to Travel on an Expired US Passport

International travel with an expired U.S. passport is nearly impossible. You only can use an expired U.S. passport to travel overland or by sea to Canada and within the United States. With a valid U.S. passport, you can travel to most countries. Canada and the United States have agreed to allow U.S. citizens to cross the border between the two countries with an expired U.S. passport when it is accompanied by a government-issued photo I.D, such as a driver's license.
