A cruise is a good holiday getaway if you live near a coast. These cruises can take anywhere from two to 10 days, depending on what you want and how long your holiday is. You can take a cruise down to the Bahamas and enjoy the warm weather or up north and visit Alaska or Canada. If you don't live near a coast, you can always fly to get there.
Take a road trip. Plot out places you want to visit on the way, like ghost towns, historic places or famous cafes. Some cities are known for celebrating certain holidays, so take a trip to visit one of them. For example, if it is the Fourth of July, find a small all-American town that has town barbecues and big fireworks shows. Or if it is Christmas, head up to the mountains and visit a winter wonderland for the holiday.
Go somewhere that is the opposite of where you live for your holiday. For example, if you are from a large city, spend your holiday experiencing small town life. Or if you are from a small town, venture out the the big city and see the sights on your holiday. If you typically have a holiday dinner at home, try something different and go out to a restaurant for your holiday meal. This is a quick getaway you can easily plan spur of the moment.
Spend your holiday relaxing at a quaint bed and breakfast. These places may also serve holiday dinner so you do not have to worry about preparing it. Bed and Breakfast places are in both towns and cities, so no matter where you want to spend your holiday, you can find a place to get away at a minute's notice.
Every holiday has a type of temperature associated with it, so getaway somewhere that has the opposite type of climate. For example, if you live somewhere with a cold, snowy climate then go somewhere else like a tropical beach. Or if you are from a warm area, travel somewhere that allows you to experience snow and cold.
