The Southeast Steuben County Library has a dedicated children's staff that encourages young people to learn and express their creativity. Several days a week, the staff has story time where they read aloud books like "Chicken Little" and "Baby Bookworm." During the night readings, children are invited to come in their pajamas. The library also has movie nights for the whole family where films like "Toy Story 3" are shown. Older children can make use of the young adult section and watch DVDs, listen to CDs or browse the Internet.
Imagine That! is a children's shop that specializes in toys, games, puzzles and clothing. Children are invited to come in, shop and explore. In 2008, the store was given an Earth Day window display award for its high number of plan toys, which are made from environmentally-friendly products.
The Gaffer District in Corning is a Business Improvement District that features restaurants, antique shops and family-owned boutiques. The Kid's Trail is a multi-stop adventure that points them to various locations, though you don't have to visit all of the sites. A suggested stop is the Corning Museum of Glass, where children can watch glass making shows and browse the decorative suggestions. At the Earth, Paint and Fire Studio, children can paint bowls and figurines that will be put in kilns for pick-up later. At the end of the trail, they can visit the Old World Cafe and Ice Cream Parlor for a well-deserved cone.
