Taking care of your upholstery is important, but sometimes things happen to your furniture that are beyond your control. A cigarette burn is a common problem for upholstery and can be embarrassing for people to see. Luckily, there are ways to repair these damages in upholstery.
Rub mayonnaise on the burn. This may sound like a strange trick, but it actually works. Take a little mayonnaise and rub it on the burn hole in the upholstery. Let the mayonnaise sit for a few minutes until it soaks into the furniture.
Wash off the mayo. By letting the mayonnaise set on the burn, it helps to detach the black marks left by the cigarette burn. Wash off the mayo and most of the black burn marks will be removed with it.
Scrape off the rest of the burn. After the mayo is removed, scrape off any remaining black marks with a knife or with your fingernail if the burn is small enough.
Take a razor to the inside or underside of the furniture that has the cigarette burn. Cut a small piece of fabric from an area of the furniture that cannot be seen. Make sure that you cut a piece that is about the same size as the burn.
Attach the newly cut fabric over the cigarette burn using fabric glue. This completes the repair.
Trim the fabric so that it fits neatly into the hole created by the cigarette and so that you can barely even see the repair. If the fabric has a pattern, make sure that you cut out the same area of the pattern that has been burned.
