When traveling abroad in the United Kingdom, you will likely find yourself with the need to exchange your US dollars for UK pounds. The easiest way to do this is at the airport when you get off of your flight, but the airport currency exchange rates are often higher than other places, so it's best to put it aside until you find a different business that offers the service. Fortunately, there are several different businesses in the UK that exchange currency.
Locate money exchange center such as banks, hotels and travel agencies which offer this service. If you are unsure where one of these businesses are, you can check in a local phone book. You can also call ahead to get rates from different businesses as they may have different fees.
Inform the teller at the business that you want to exchange your dollars for pounds. Have your passport ready as they may ask to see it. You may also be asked to fill out paperwork that asks for your citizenship and contact information.
Count your cash carefully and hand it to the teller. Confirm that the teller counts the same dollar amount as you.
Take the pounds from the teller. Count the money to make sure the amount is accurate before you leave the business.
