Every day, thousands of travelers flying into Mexico bring drugs prescribed by their doctor that are taken on a regular basis. Here are some tips for transporting medicine in Mexico by air that will make your life easier, especially when dealing with customs officials at the airport.
Keep any prescription medication in your carry-on baggage in the original container to prove medical necessity of the drug. The medication's labeling should have your name, address, doctor's name and dosing information imprinted on it. Without the original packaging, the medication may be confiscated by a customs agent as contraband.
Retain a copy of the original prescription with you, including your name, the name of the medication as well as a note from your doctor explaining why you need the medicine. This is especially important for diabetics who carry syringes with them.
Bring only enough medication to last for the duration of your trip. Bringing anything more than that into Mexico may result in further inspection and scrutiny from Mexican customs officials at the airport, and possible confiscation of the medicine.
