U.S. Airways levies a nonrefundable fee when checking in baggage at the airport, and recommends travelers check in bags online. As of September 2010, the fee for one checked bag at the airport is $25, and $20 online for passengers on U.S. flights. The second checked bag will cost passengers $30 online and $35 at the airport, and three or more bags will cost $100 either online or at the airport. The first bag is free for passengers to Europe, the Middle East and South America. The second bag is $50 online and $55 at the airport for passengers on European flights, but is free for South American and Middle Eastern flights. Like domestic travelers, three or more bags will cost $100 either online or in person.
In addition to the fees for checked luggage, U.S. Airways will charge for bags that exceed its weight limits. As of September 2010, bags that weigh between 51 and 70 lbs will cost Coach or Economy section travelers an additional $50. Luggage between 71 and 100 lbs, or bags that are more than 62 inches will cost an additional $100. If you're traveling to or from Brazil, or are a First Class or Envoy passenger you can check two bags up to 70 lbs without incurring a fee.
As of September 2010, each passenger is allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item, which can be a purse, laptop bag or briefcase. Carry-on luggage cannot exceed U.S. Airway's specified dimensions, which are 45 inches or 14-by-9-by-22 inches. Carry-on bags can be up to 40 lbs. The carry-on luggage for U.S. Airways Express passengers will be tagged and placed in the plane's cargo bin. Upon landing, passengers can pick up the luggage on the tarmac.
Parents or guardians who have paid 10 percent of the adult fare for a traveling infant are allowed to have one checked bag with suitable dimensions, as well as one collapsible stroller, care seat or child restraint device.
