Each airline has their own, individual standards within the FAA's rules. Check with your airline so you know their luggage dimension requirements for international travel. You can check their website, ask your agent, or simply call the airline and ask for the information.
Your carry-on must be 45 inches total (meaning height, width, and depth of the bag). Measure the height, width and depth and then add up those three numbers. If it comes out to more than 45 inches, you need a smaller bag. Most bags are 21 inches to 24 inches wide, about 8 inches to 9 inches deep, and no more than 16 inches high. Carry-on bags have a weight limit of 20 pounds.
The weight limit for checked baggage for international travel is 50 pounds. If your checked baggage exceeds the weight limit you will have to divide it between other bags. Bring extra bags with you or weigh your luggage before leaving home to avoid problems. Additional charges may be incurred for more bags, as space is limited on airlines.
Place all items in see-through bags for ease in both packing and searching by airport security. It will make everything easier for you and the security workers at the airport. It will probably decrease the time you spend in line, too. Your luggage does not have to be transparent, but everything else should be.
