London is a popular tourist attraction because it is a melting pot of culture. Although children may not understand the historical and political importance of Buckingham Palace or 10 Downing Street, there is an abundance of family activities scattered across the large city. Regardless what part of London you are visiting, you are destined to find an activity that you can enjoy with your children.

  1. Museums

    • London is full of free museum thanks to the National Lottery Fund. There are many that you can enjoy with your children. The Theatre Museum in Covent Gardens contains costumes and set pieces from various productions throughout the years. Many interactive activities entertain children, including face painting. In Kensington you will find The Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood, The Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. The Museum of Childhood is perfect for children because it displays toys dating back hundreds of years. The Natural History Museum is directly across the street and is quite easily the best museum for children in the entire city. This museum takes you through the history of earth and the human race with many hands-on exhibits to keep your children entertained. The Science Museum is not too far away and has the most hands-on exhibits compared to other museums. These are like mini-science experiments scattered throughout the large museum.

    • London has many royal parks across the city. Green Park is located near Buckingham Palace. Hyde Park is on the outskirts of Kensington. Hampstead Heath is near the suburbs of the London. Although every park is a good place to let your child burn off some energy, Regent's Park is the best family oriented park in London. Much like the other royal parks, Regent's Park has plenty of space to enjoy a picnic lunch or a game of tag. There is a pond where you can feed ducks as well as paths to take walks. Unlike the other parks, Regent's Park is also home to the London Zoo. The London Zoo boasts a large collection of animals from the world that can be viewed for a small fee. Your family could easily pass a day at Regent's Park.

    • There are a number of tourist attractions in London that are appropriate for children. Older children may enjoy one of London's newest attractions, The London Dungeon. This spooky roller coaster-esque ride takes you on a tour of Jack Ripper's trail across London. This attraction is so popular you may wait in line for hours. Think about purchasing tickets ahead of time online for your family. Another attraction children may enjoy is Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Madame Tussaud's is home to some of the most famous faces in wax form. Finally, the London Trocadero is located in Picadilly Circus and contains indoor arcades, shopping, bowling and more.
